Area and multiplication continue to be the topics in math class. Today students used cuisenaire rods to make rectangles with the constant area of 36 squared centimeters. They needed to figure out the width, length, and perimeter of these rectangles. They quickly discovered rectangles may look different but they can have the same area. Next, they used the same manipulatives to create rectangles with a constant perimeter of 12cm and a given width… their responsibility was to discover the length of the rectangle and the area. This activity proved to be quite challenging and critical thinking and creativity were needed!
