Monday 2/23Monday 2/23
Our new integrated literacy unit focuses on matter and energy. While we will discuss matter, our main focus will be on the different forms of energy. At the end of the unit students will be authors of an informative Q & A (question & answer) book.
Last week the class had the opportunity to explore Q & A books on a variety of topics. Together we looked at these books from a writer’s perspective and documented our findings. Students filled out a K-W-L chart on what they already know about matter and energy, what they want to know, and (after a short video) what they learned.
Today they participated in a mini-lesson on how to anticipate readers’ questions. Students brainstormed with a partner on what questions other students might have about energy. These questions will be great building blocks for their Q & A book research.
