Good afternoon!

Fractions were introduced in math class today.  In this unit on fractions, students will be introduced to fraction notation and develop understanding of equivalent fractions using number line diagrams and other visual models. They will learn that the numerator represents the number of portions and the denominator represents the size of the portions, and they will compare fractions with either the same numerator or same denominator.

Today the class practiced partitioning a rectangle into halves, fourths, and eighths.  The objective of the lesson was for all students have an understanding that fractional parts must be equal-sized.
