Juliette Low Students and Families Celebrate Heritage Park Kickoff
On Saturday, September 17, Juliette Low students experienced firsthand the sweetness of working together with local community partners at the “Popsicles in the Park” event at Heritage Park in Arlington Heights.
The event was a collaboration with the Arlington Heights Park District and marked not only the grand opening of the new park, but also kicked off the first family event for Juliette Low’s Global Community Committee (GCC). The GCC is a parent/teacher committee designed to celebrate diversity, both at Juliette Low Elementary and within its community. The committee’s goal is to provide events and opportunities for the parents and families in the community to have meaningful interactions both inside and outside of school.
During the event, students and their families enjoyed popsicles, music, tiger paw tattoos, interacting with the Juliette Low Mascot, Pawsitive, and speaking to staff from the Arlington Heights Book Mobile and the Community Connections Center. The students enjoyed many outdoor activities, such as soccer, jump rope, hula hoops, and chalk drawing, and their families also enjoyed a beautiful day at the park with their children while socializing with other parents and community members.
The success of the event was a result of the collaborative efforts of the the Arlington Heights Park District, the Global Community Committee, the Community Connections Center, the Arlington Heights Public Library, staff members and volunteers, and the students and families who attended.
“Popsicles in the Park was a wonderful family event that connected our whole community,” said Susan Ejma, Principal at Juliette Low. “We want to thank everyone who participated, volunteered, donated, or attended for supporting our school community. We are really looking forward to more events like this in the future.”
