Agenda Item 4.0

Prepare 2018 Tax Levy And Set Date – 4.01
Cook County taxing districts adhere to the Truth in Taxation Law (35 ILCS 200/18-55; Division 2). This law requires the district to estimate the necessary amount of its aggregate levy not fewer than 20 days before taking action to adopt the levy.

At the October 9, 2018, board meeting, the board will vote on the resolution authorizing the administration to proceed with the preparation of the 2018 levy and to announce the public hearing date of November 19, 2018.

Prepare 2019-20 Budget – 4.02
Section 5/17-1 of the Illinois School Code requires an annual tentative budget to be prepared by a representative designated by the board, which is available to public inspection for at least 30 days prior to final action.

At the October 9, 2018, board meeting, the board will vote to designate the superintendent to cause a tentative budget to be prepared for the 2019-20 fiscal year based on criteria of budget parameters.

2019-20 Capital Projects – 4.03
After completing a review of proposed capital improvement projects for fiscal year 2019-20,
the board is being asked to approve an estimated $1,506,150 in district-wide capital improvement projects to be charged to the Operation and Maintenance Fund, scheduled for completion during the 2019-20 fiscal year.

Establishing Previous Generation Computer Purchase Price – 4.04
In the spring, the board approved the purchase of new staff computers. The board discussed continuing the practice of allowing staff the option to purchase their previous computer at fair market value. The board will hold discussions of options for use, sale, or donation of any inventory that remains after the staff purchase process is complete.

Agenda Item 6.0

Award of Bid for Maintenance Vehicles – 6.01
The board had previously reviewed the recommendation for awarding the bid for replacement of two maintenance vehicles. Bidders were asked to include trade-in values for three district vehicles, with the trade-in allowances deducted from the bidder’s base price.

The lowest bid for two 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD pickup trucks was submitted by Castle Chevrolet. Their base bid of $102,146, in addition to fee charges of $290, less the trade-ins totaling $16,000 resulted in a net bid of $86,436.

The board awarded the bid to Castle Chevrolet.

Approval of Read for Information Grant Application for Grove Junior High School – 6.02
Sofia Huitron, Learning Resource Teacher at Grove Junior High School, requested approval of the board to apply for The Read for Information Grant. Funding for this grant is provided by the Library Book Selection Service (LBSS) Endowment Fund.

If awarded, the grant will support the purchase of nonfiction books in Spanish in order to assist Grove’s school library in meeting Common Core expectations related to the balance of fiction and nonfiction books. If approved, the grant award will be used to provide nonfiction materials valued at not more than $1,500 for the dual language program.

The board approved the application of The Read for Information Grant for Grove Junior High School.


New/Continuing Business and Announcements

Agenda Item 8.0

2018-19 Board Calendar Agenda – 8.01
The board held no discussions about upcoming events listed on the board calendar agenda.

Board and Superintendent Committee Assignments 2018-19 – 8.02
Board members indicated their preferences for serving on superintendent and board committees, and committee member assignments were determined.

Community Education Forum – 8.03
A tentative date of October 22, 2018, was discussed for a community education forum which will be topic-driven and will share information with the community. The forums will be designed for the community to share feedback and dialogue as well as learn more from the district about district outcomes, Common Core, new initiatives, assessments, and other topics based on participant feedback. Additional information will be shared with parents and the community as planning is finalized.

Intergovernmental Agreement with NWSRA – 8.04
The board reviewed the district’s legal opinion regarding the transportation of students to NWSRA’s after-school program for out of district students. The board will discuss the updated legal opinion at a future meeting.
