Award of Bid for Maintenance Vehicles Summary – 4.01
The board reviewed the recommendation for awarding the bid for replacement of two maintenance vehicles. Bidders were asked to include trade-in values for three district vehicles, with the trade-in allowances deducted from the bidder’s base price.
The lowest bid for two 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD pickup trucks was submitted by Castle Chevrolet. Their base bid of $102,146, in addition to fee charges of $290, less the trade-ins totaling $16,000 resulted in a net bid of $86,436.
The board will vote on the recommendation that the bid be awarded to Castle Chevrolet at the September 24, 2018 board meeting.
Board and Superintendent Committees 2018-19 – 4.02
The board reviewed committees listed in CCSD59 board policy and/or required by school code. The entire board policy on this information can be reviewed here.
SRA – Intergovernmental Agreement with NWSRA – 4.03
The board discussed potential scenarios for transporting students to after school programs outside of the district. The district will continue to have conversations and investigate possible options.

Approval of Changes to Board Policy 2:220 -7.01
Board Policy 2:230 – Public Participation at Board of Education Meetings and Petitions to the Board indicates that individuals addressing the board during the public comment section of the agenda at a public meeting shall be limited to three minutes to allow more individuals the opportunity to speak. To align Board Policy 2:220 School Board Meeting Procedure with Board Policy with 2:230 – Public Participation at Board of Education Meeting and Petitions to the Board, the board approved the amendment of Board Policy 2:220.
Approval for Brentwood Elementary School Teacher to Solicit Donations through the DonorsChoose Organization – 7.02
The board approved the request by Chris Vicente, on behalf of CCSD59, to fundraise through DonorsChoose for materials for Brentwood Elementary in the amount of $506.54. This donation will be used to purchase spanish books to supplement his classroom library.
Approval for Clearmont Elementary School Teacher to Solicit Donations through the DonorsChoose Organization – 7.03
The board approved the request by Jolanta Bober, on behalf of CCSD59, to fundraise through DonorsChoose for materials for Clearmont Elementary in the amount of $548.00. This donation will be used to purchase one easel and twenty write-and-wipe boards for her classroom.
Approval of Bears Care/American Heart Association, Midwest Affiliate Donation of $4,500 to Holmes Junior High School – 7.04
Holmes Junior High School has received notification that they are the 2nd place winner in the 2018 Play 60 Challenge. This challenge, which was completed by Holmes Junior High students in the Spring of 2018, is a partnership between the Chicago Bears’ Bears Care and the American Heart Association, Midwest Affiliate.
The board approved the donation of $4,500.00 from Bears Care/American Heart Association, Midwest Affiliate. This donation will go towards purchasing P.E. and fitness equipment at Holmes Junior High School.
Approval of Enchanted Backpack Adopt-A-School Partner Application with Rupley Elementary School – 7.05
The board previously approved the donation of $10,000 from Enchanted Backpack organization, which provided Rupley Elementary School students with school supplies and other basic needed items. Because of this previous donation award, Rupley has the opportunity to apply to become an Enchanted Backpack Adopt-A-School partner. Of the nineteen eligible schools in Illinois that could apply for the opportunity, only two schools will be awarded this partnership.
If awarded the partnership, $20,000 will be given to Rupley Elementary School, which would be used to update and improve the LRC space. Facilitated by Diana O’Donnell, principal of Rupley school, students in 4th and 5th grade would work on designing and determining the purchases to create a student-friendly learning environment for all.
The board approved the administrative request by principal O’Donnell to complete the Enchanted Backpack Adopt-A-School Partner application.
