Agenda Item 4.0

Refresh of K-2 Primary Device – 4.01
Assistant Superintendent for Innovative Learning and Communications, Ben Grey, shared an update with the board regarding discussions and planning for a potential student device refresh for students in grades K-2. Student devices for grades 3-8 were refreshed in the fall of 2017. Teacher feedback and input will continue to be gathered and further discussion will take place at the May 14, 2018, board meeting.

Review Board Policies From Press Update #97 – 4.02
The board reviewed the following proposed policy updates and will take action at the May 14, 2018, board meeting.
a. Policy: 2:260 Uniform Grievance Procedure
b. Policy: 4:40 Incurring Debt
c. Policy 5:20 Workplace Harassment Prohibited
d. New Exhibit- 5:20-E Resolution to Prohibit Sexual Harassment
e. Policy – 5:200 Terms and Conditions of Employment and Dismissal

Typically Developing Preschool Students Five Day Program Fee: 2018/2019 School Year – 4.03
As CCSD59 will provide preschool programming for special education, at-risk, and typically developing children during the 2018-19 school year, the board will vote on the following proposals at the May 14, 2018, board meeting on the time of attendance and fees for the 2018-19 preschool program for typically developing students:

● 5-Day: July – June: $285 per month ($1,425 per semester, $2,850 per year);
● The school day (two and one-half hours) and school week,
Time: 8:15 – 10:45 a.m.
School Week: 5-Day (M, T, W, Th & F)
● And, require the first month fee to be paid at the time of confirmation of placement in the program, with a family eligible for a refund of the first month payment through July 2, 2018.

Award of Bid For Parking Lot Asphalt Resurfacing for Devonshire Elementary School Letter of Recommendation – 4.04
Parking lot resurfacing at Devonshire Elementary was approved at the February 12, 2018, board meeting via the Capital Improvement Projects resolution. RTM & Associates prepared drawings and bid specifications for the project. Twelve bids were received, opened, and reviewed on April 13, 2018. A scope review was held with the lowest responsible bidder Accu-Paving Company, along with Scott Digilio from RTM & Associates, and representatives of the District. At the May 14, 2018, board meeting, the board will vote on the contract award to Accu-Paving Company in the amount of $156,825.

Board Reorganization – 6.01
a. Adoption of Board Policy Manual
The board reaffirmed the adoption of the CCSD59 Board Policy Manual.

b. Determination Of Length Of Office — President, Vice President And Secretary To the Board of Education
The board established the length of office for the president, vice-president, and secretary to be for a period of one year; the next election of officers will be held in 2019.

c. Establishment of Stipend For The Board Secretary
The board established there would be no annual stipend to be paid to the elected board secretary as compensation for the performance of the duties of this office. This continues to be the established board practice.

d. Nomination and Election of President
The board elected Janice Krinsky as President of the Board of Education.

e. Nomination and Election of Vice-President
The board elected Karen Osmanski as Vice-President of the Board of Education.

f. Nomination and Election of Secretary
The board elected Dr. Tim Burns as Secretary of the Board of Education.

g. Set Time, Dates and Location for Regular Meetings of the Board of Education for the 2018/19 School Year
The board set the date, time, and place for its regular meetings in accordance with the listing of meeting dates and times attached to this resolution.

h. Appointment of IASB Governing Board Representative
The board appointed Barbara Somogyi as the School District 59 IASB Governing Board Representative.

Adoption of Final School Calendars for 2017/18 School Term – 6.02
a. Option 1 – June 4, 2018 As Last Day of Student Attendance
b. Option 2 – June 1, 2018 As Last Day of Student Attendance

The board determined the last day of attendance for students following the traditional and balanced calendars will be June 1, 2018, and the last day for staff following the traditional and balanced calendars will be June 4, 2018.

Proclamation for Staff Appreciation Week – May 7-11, 2018 – 6.03
As the success of CCSD59 is the result of a team effort on the part of our staff, including administrators, teachers, administrative assistants, school board members, clerks, aides, volunteers, and custodial/maintenance personnel, a proclamation was approved recognizing CCSD59 staff members as part of National Teacher Appreciation Week. Staff Appreciation Week will be celebrated throughout the district during the week of May 7-11, 2018.

Approval of Solicitation for Donors Choose for Brentwood Elementary School – 6.04
The board approved the request by Ann Sullivan to solicit donations for Brentwood Elementary School in the amount of $856.77 from Donors’ Choose. Once the donation is received, it will be used to purchase 72 Everblocks, giant legos that can be used to engineer furniture, shelving, and create structures on large scales.

Approval of Solicitation for Donors Choose for Brentwood Elementary School – 6.05
The board approved the request by Stephanie Lamberg Peterson to solicit donations for Brentwood Elementary school in the amount of $791.25 from Donors’ Choose. This donation will be used to purchase BreakoutEdu kits, which will help create immersive classroom experiences as students gamify their learning in the classroom.

Approval of Solicitation for Donors Choose for Brentwood Elementary School – 6.06
The board approved the request by Jennifer Swarbrick to solicit donations for Brentwood Elementary school in the amount of $835.40 from Donors’ Choose. This donation will be used to purchase Jumbo Bricks, which will be used for engineering challenges, math lessons, and integrated into other content area learning.

Approval of GE Education Program Donation to Juliette Low Elementary School – 6.07
The board approved the acceptance of the donation of the 3D printer from the GE Additive Education Program, valued at $3,000. The 3D printer will be added to the Maker Space at Juliette Low Elementary, allowing students to create and problem solve while making their projects. Future 3D maintenance and supply costs will be covered by Juliette Low’s building budget.

Approval of Sion Club – 6.08
The board approved a donation of $1,000 from the Sion Club, Women’s Korean Club. This donation will go towards improvements to the LRC at Rupley Elementary School: new books, furniture, materials and beautification to assist in providing a 21st century learning space to students.
